Introduction
For most British people the only yodelling they know is from comedic performances on television and radio, whereas "proper yodelling" is a truly most beautiful sound. You can see more on the VIDEOS page of this site.

JODELCHOR MELLINGEN
Jodelchor Mellingen is a top ranked yodel choir from Switzerland. They regularly perform in festivals and competitions where they are very often given the highest grade.
The Mellingen Yodel Choir was founded in 1947, is a member of the Swiss Yodelling Association and is one of the few mixed yodelling choirs in north-western Switzerland. The choir also sings in retirement homes, on anniversaries and birthdays, church concerts and the accompaniment of church services are also part of the annual programme.
Jodelchor Mellingen performs at home and abroad under the direction of Cäcilia Brem.
The Choir first met Ashley Price in 2018 when they were performing in Lewes's twin town of Waldshut-Tiengen. Ashley attended all their performances and a friendship quickly developed. In 2023 they met again in Waldshut-Tiengen, and the Choir even kindly performed an impromptu song for Ashley in the main street (the Kaiserstraße) of the town - as can be seen above. It was then the plan started to form of bringing Jodelchor Mellingen to Lewes to perform two exclusive U.K. concerts in Lewes.

THE PADDOCK SINGERS
The Paddock Singers occupies a unique position in the Lewes choral scene, being the only women's chamber choir in the area. Led by our musical director, Ruth Kerr, we have built a reputation as a group who deliver highly entertaining, polished performances, with an eclectic range of music spanning the centuries and the genres. Every one of our performances is a celebration of the music we sing and our joy of singing together!
We are thrilled to have been invited to perform with Jodelchor Mellingen and will relish the opportunity to showcase some traditional British music alongside their traditional Swiss repertoire. What a lovely opportunity to demonstrate the way in which music brings us all together!

THE TWAGGER BAND
The Twagger Band started about 17 years ago as a bunch of five friends playing mainly traditional music in local Sussex folk clubs. We're now a six piece band and particularly enjoy engaging our audience with a varied repertoire and lots of musical surprises.
Our name came about after Joy noticed a lot of little levers on Sue's hammer dulcimer. They are actually semi-tone levers, but at the time Joy didn't know what they were and asked, 'what are those little twaggers?' In her home county of South Yorkshire, a twagger is either something which doesn't have a name, or defies description, or you can't remember it (as in wotsit, oojah, thingamajig). Joy also has 34 twaggers on her harp (small levers for changing key). Hence the Twagger Band!
The band members are Joy Lewis playing hammer dulcimer and Celtic Harp, Sue Evans playing hammer dulcimer and English concertina, Tom Evans playing accordion, Ian Chisholm playing guitar, mandolin and banjo, Keith Phillips playing fiddle and viola, and Derrick Hughes playing Northumbrian smallpipes, whistles and serpent.
